Fun fact: I woke up today and I discovered that I had not written anything to post today. I mean who does that? Lucky for us, my creativity works a lot better under pressure (sometimes😂)

Recently, I've been seeing a lot of social media posts with the message that 'bottom line, feminism is a waste of time'. Which brings the question "How could you even think that?"

First of all, a lot of rights which women enjoy in recent time is because of feminism.

Look at it this way, women were not allowed to vote in the past, but now women can vote, and it's thanks to the feminist movement.

Women were not even allowed to go to school. All that mattered as a woman was to perfect your needlework, be a perfect cook, an accomplished musician, and be innocent, so you get a good husband. So much has happened since the original movement began but there is still so much to do.

But it's understandable. From generations, women have been restrained at home. In so many cases they are treated as childbearing slaves. Growing up, a lot of girls would hear things like "Don't do this, how do you expect to find a husband that way?", "You're a girl, you shouldn't do this" or "Men don't like women who do that" It's just so restricting.

So when girls argue about who does the chores and who doesn't, I don't blame them.

In Nigeria, women are not allowed to post bail. It's appalling. Like it doesn't even consider the fact that there might not even be a male figure in some families to do this.

Did you know that women are not allowed to work overnight?

The labour law even stops women from getting jobs in manufacturing industries.

Section 55(1)(d) of the penal code makes it lawful for a man to beat his wife for correction.

Excuse me? Correct, who?

By the way, marital rape is not a thing in Nigeria. In fact, the penal code makes it lawful for a man to have sex with his wife forcefully if she has attained puberty.

The criminal code makes it legal for a man to forcefully have sex with his wife even if she's not interested.

😂😂😂 it's funny that the constitution has made these men entitled to women's body. Then you wonder why the rape culture is prominent in the country.

Married women are not allowed to enlist into the police force.

Oh, and by the way, a woman was fired from the Nigerian police force because she got pregnant out of wedlock.

Wanna hear something more appalling? A woman who served in the Nigerian army was sacked because she got pregnant. She had gotten pregnant as a result of rape by terrorists.

This is just a few, but there is so much more that needs to be done when it comes to protecting women rights and ensuring that women have equal rights with men.

It's the accuracy of your memes for me. 😭

So lemme get this straight, the law allows a man to beat his wife for correction? She be eye defect or maths classwork? 😭

How does a sane country even make laws without consulting the affected party?

I think it's high time women got in on the action in the legislature and amended the patriarchal laws that hinder gender equality and women's rights.

I even heard if a man and woman assault each other and they're both found guilty, the woman's term is longer than that of the man. Like what is that fgs. 🤦‍♂️
